DTF vs. Silk Screen Printing: Which Suits Your Order in Ipoh?
Almost every quote conversation we have in Ipoh comes down to the same question: DTF or silk screen? Both produce clean, durable prints, but they're built for different jobs. Here's how we decide which one to recommend for your order.
DTF printing: best for detail and small-to-mid runs
DTF (direct-to-film) prints your design onto a special film, then heat-presses it onto the shirt. Because it's a digital print, it handles gradients, photos and multi-colour logos without extra setup cost per colour. It also works on dark fabric without a white-ink workaround.
DTF is the better choice when your design has fine detail, many colours, or your order is under a few hundred pieces — there's no screen setup to pay for, so smaller quantities stay affordable.
Silk screen: best for large bulk runs
Silk screen pushes ink through a mesh stencil, one screen per colour. Setting up the screens takes more time upfront, but once they're made, printing hundreds or thousands of identical pieces is fast and the per-piece cost drops significantly. This is why silk screen is still the standard for school uniforms, company bulk orders and event t-shirts with one or two colours.
If your design is simple (1–3 colours) and your quantity is large — think a school's full cohort, or 500+ corporate tees — silk screen usually works out cheaper and prints just as durably.
A quick way to decide
- Detailed, full-colour or photographic design, smaller quantity: DTF
- Simple design, large bulk quantity (uniforms, events): Silk screen
- Sports jerseys with all-over colour: sublimation, not DTF or silk screen
- Logo-only, premium finish (polo shirts, caps): embroidery
